Building a Federal Health Board: Impact on Texas

Texas Health Institute will host its second forum on the impact of a Federal Health Board in a July 22nd meeting in Houston, Texas.

THI and the Harris County Healthcare Alliance sponsored the first in a series of statewide forums, Building a Federal Health Board: Impact on Texas last month to discuss the possible structure, implementation and impact of a Federal Health Board modeled after the Federal Reserve Board. The forum, a capacity crowd, had a myriad of questions for the Federal Reserve Board speaker and a panel of Houston-area health and community stakeholders. At the request of attendees and others, THI will host a second meeting in Houston before announcing additional forums on the topic to be scheduled around the state.

Laying the groundwork for understanding the Federal Reserve Board (FRB) model, Michelle Trevino-Aguillar, Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas – Houston Branch, wll outline the function and structure of the Federal Reserve at the July meeting. Camille D. Miller, THI President/CEO, will then present an outline of a parallel Federal Health Board structure and ask panelists and attendees for their thoughts and comments of the viability of such a structure.

The July 22nd Federal Health Board forum will be held at the St. Joseph Medical Center in Houston, in the 9th floor auditorium from 8 am to noon.
